Our Private Guided Tour by Kostas was arranged by my very thoughtful colleague, Connie. The guide made the first stop at our hotel then went on to pick the other three couples.
He started sharing the statistics & interesting information about Santorini. Did not take long for us to notice the charismatic and humourous side of him. One of the bonus was, he is a talented photographer too.
In his vehicle, he would stop at beautiful sightings & offered to use our cameras to take pictures.
These are holiday homes of the Greece. When the kids are having school holidays, parents will have vacation at these homes.
As Kostas drove along the route, he talked about the grapes wineries houses chapels.
Our first town, Oia. I almost booked my accomodation here. Thankfully, I didn’t as it is heavily crowded with tourists and… I realised it is more expensive shopping here. A lot of chinese tourists here.
Our guide told us the locals will not shop at Fira & Oia. He brought us here for photo taking… and there was the hidden places for best spot.
We were thankful to engage him as our private tour guide.
The men in our group likes him. He gave us some free time to shop around. I wanted to get this wooden Pinnochio for Leia but Bret thought it can be creepy at night.
So in the end I did not get anything from Oia nor were we there for Sunset. We were taken to a romantic place where wedding ceremony are held. Instead of bride & groom, a helicopter was around. Here is short clip.
Next we get to try Santo Wine ! Only found in Santorini.
Very very sweet and I love it. Kids will like too. But not sure how we can bring back to singapore so we didn’t buy. Santo wine is used as communion wine.
This is a monastary and very important place for greeks.
At this point, we were at the highest peak of Santorini where we have an overview of the amazing island.
Next, we went onto to another village. Our guide told us we have to walk quite a bit to reach the best spot for sunset.
We walked and walked…
Saw many parts of the villages where locals reside. Our guide has a century aged house passed down by his ancestors. The traditional houses in greece were made of stone by hand… look at the wall of stones..
So we arrived.. we were on the roof tops enjoying an open view of the sky & aegean sea. My first time watching sunset with Bret… and awesome colleagues.
Last but not least, a selfie before we part with our charming licensed guide, Kostas.
The day tour ended and dinner time with my colleagues at Mama’s House, Fira. I had steak and portion was quite big.
Decent juicy steak to end our long day.
