Day 2: Santorini, Greece 2014 Part II

With an experienced driver & map, Bret and I were on the look out for Black Beach. By chance, we discovered a beach with black pebbles. Its the beach nearest to airport. There were not many tourists…the word is… peaceful

Both of us laid on the sun bed to get ourselves tanned as we listened to music.

We were living for the summer, the heat and tanning.

An hour later, we continued to explore the island. Bret was as excited driving around. We saw many ATV(Scooter) & most of the time, we just followed them.

image

Through the road, we saw many wineries & I asked to pull over at a beer brewery.

image

We were given an introduction about the ingredients of beer. One of the special ingredients was herbs.

image

The aroma of the beer was sweet & flora. Bret likes the beer and something we don’t have in singapore.

image

I like Yellow Donkey best. Its lightest. Bret prefers Red Donkey as the alcohol percentage is higher. Crazy Donkey has the highest alcohol content and it was little bitter for us. So we bought Yellow & Red Donkey for hotel booze. After brewery, we travelled all the way to the north of the island. Along the way, we saw donkeys which can be hired as “taxi”.

image

Back on the road, we found Niki’s. I was curious about authentic greek food at restaurants away from touristic place.

image

Early for dinner, the restuarant was quiet and I had Greek Salad.

image

Tomatoes, Green Pepper, Red Onions, Olive oil, Feta Cheese. I could eat most of the given portion which was relatively huge. Bret had chicken with rice. Noticed the rice is different from asian rice. He didn’t enjoy because the dish was served cold… but this restaurant happened to be a favourite among the locals.

image

Maybe we went at the wrong time.. but still, we had fun. Then it was getting dark so we returned to our hotel. The rental of the car was 24hrs so we parked near our hotel. Showered again and changed for night shopping at busy touristy Fira.

image

There were lot of shops, cafes and bar. I was tempted to shop for clothings but that wasn’t my mission for this trip so I endured.

image

We were lured to the smell of barbequed meat. I had Chicken Pita… really good stuffs!!!!

image

Then we strolled to a bar by the Aegean Sea.

image

Bret ordered beer while I had hot chocolate. Night time in Santorini is so cold.. we were freezing. Didn’t take long for hubby to request an early night.

image

Walking back, I was keen to try the gelato ice cream…

image

Hmm I prefer gelato back at home.

My favourite thing to do is to visit places I’ve not been to”

And so much so for our fruitful Day 2 where we travelled in a car free and easy.
