Cny Diy Popiah & Laksa

Saturday afternoon, Bret’s colleagues came over for mahjiong. The gentlemen played for straight 5 hours before they head off for an evening party.

Around 6pm, my parents arrived with Delicious Diy Popiah and Laksa ordered from Fortune Food.

My mum kicked off with the first Popiah. Having DIY Popiah means we can customised each roll. Have a feeling we will end late so my mum feels its better for Leia to stayover at her place.

Besides Popiah and Laksa, I prepared Stir-Fry Nian Gao too. This is one of my favourite dish for CNY.

From Wikipedia,

“While it can be eaten all year round, traditionally it is most popular during Chinese New Year. It is considered good luck to eat nian gao during this time, because “nian gao” is a homonym for “higher year.” The Chinese word 粘 (nián), meaning “sticky”, is identical in sound to 年, meaning “year”, and the word 糕 (gāo), meaning “cake” is identical in sound to 高, meaning “high or tall”.”

By serving this dish, I look forward to attain Greater Achievement with my dearest friends. Achieve our career and slimming goals!

The happy trio arrived and appeared shocked when Bret gave them red packets just like previous years.

“In Chinese and other Asian societies, a red envelope or red packet is a monetary gift which is given during holidays or special occasions such as weddings, the birth of a baby or graduation. Red envelopes are usually given out by married couples to single people, especially to children or work colleagues.”

Highlight of the night was DIY Station for my guests.

We didn’t expect Wendy to be a professional at wrapping Popiah.

In terms of taste and appearance, she makes the perfect Popiah!

Hubby made his own Popiah too!

We had endless of Tasty Popiah and at least two bowls of Laksa each. The laksa is abit spicy and the gravy is good when served hot.

We had our special guest, Caiyan who joined us at 11pm..given the short notice, Love her! The gorgeous lady was tired after days of meetings and gatherings. Two of us had a quick catch up at the balcony.

Back in the living room, we played cards – Blackjack and In-between. Bret was the banker and players did very well. Our big winner for the night, Melissa who scored Blackjack multiple times.

I got Huiting to have a piece of “mahjiong” chocolate… an epic scene inspired by the hk movie “God of Gambler”.

Our night ended around 3am. Melissa had to work next day … else we would have hang out till dawn maybe. Bret and I enjoy having friends at our place.

All the mingle and giggles 🙂
